About Nini

Hi! I'm Nini Slurpeegirl, the creator of My Slurpee Cup. Here's a little info about me and my website:

• I'm from Alberta, Canada, and love Slurpees!

• I drink an average of one Slurpee per day, although that stat varies with the time of year. When it's January and -30C, then I might only have a Slurpee every second day. When it's July and +30C, then I might have as many as three or four Slurpees a day.

• My favourite flavours include:

Crush Blue Bubblegum
Strawberry
Cotton Candy
Pepsi (or coke, depending on which has the best consistency)

• I *just* graduated with my BSc in Psychology (and a minor in Earth & Atmospheric Sciences). I am taking some time off from academia to rest my brain, but hope to go back and do either an after-degree (I'm thinking genetics) or try to get into graduate school.

• My favourite colours are Pink and Blue

• The first Slurpee I had was when I was ten... it was Watermelon and the Flavour of the month. My sister took me... and it was SO good! I was hooked ever since

• I also play piano, and am currently working on my degree [I have completed my practical for Performer's ARCT, but still need to finish the theory components before I receive my official degree]

• AND I love getting email, so you can always email me at nini_slurpeegirl@myslurpeecup.com

My Slurpee Cup: The Beginning

One question that people often ask me is what got me to make a website about slurpees. What was my inspiration? It all started out on one boring, late November day in 2001. I had nothing much to do, and was playing on the computer.

And then I started thinking....

My sister had made herself her own homepage and I wanted to make my own... I started to wonder how people make websites and how I could start my own. So I went to Yahoo! and searched for "free homepages" and the first on the list was Angelfire. I followed the links and signed up for free hosting. And then I got confused... now what? What should my site be about? I thought about this for awhile and wasn't too sure. I started to list the things that I liked, hoping to find something to focus on. And then I thought, "There aren't very many Slurpee sites out there... and the ones that I've found aren't good at all." And inspiration! "I'll make my site about Slurpees!!!"

Since I knew nothing about HTML, or the codes needed to create a page, I used the templates I found on Angelfire. In the beginning I only had three pages: Home (with slurpee facts), About 7-Eleven, and the Addicted page. So far, my page was no better than the others... But I was starting to learn HTML and took books out of the library to assist me. More pages were added (The slurpee story, and Consistencies), and I started to make a better looking page. Now I wasn't using the templates from Angelfire... my page was much nicer and unique in appearance. By this time it was--what?--February or something, and I submitted my site to search engines. Soon people were coming to my site and I was happy :) Soon I was adding more to the site, and "renovated" it about two or three times afterwards, making it better and easier to navigate. And then I knew that I had the best Slurpee site out there... And I wanted to keep it that way.

In June 2003, I got my own domain name (www.myslurpeecup.com), and changed the look one more time. This time I had popup menus and graphics that I created using Fireworks MX. And now what? I don't know, to be honest. I hope to maintain the site and add stuff whenever possible. I want to master Flash so that I can create games and stuff like that... Perhaps in the future I will have a "create a virtual Slurpee" game, and something where you can send your friends slurpee postcards. But for now, I'm just going to enjoy my Slurpee, and wait for the next calling...
