Consistencies
What is consistency? Consistency is how thick or thin a liquid is (and is also known to some as 'brix' or brixing'). Slurpees come in a variety of consistencies, which are all described below:Watery
• Consists of less syrup, less ice, and more water
• It's (obviously) runny
• Won't pile (it's relatively flat when poured)
• It doesn't freeze well. Only place in the freezer for short periods, otherwise it will freeze into a tasteless chunk of colored ice
Syrupy
• Consists of mostly syrup and contains less ice. The ice in it is very fine in texture
• Two consistencies go under this category:• Runny syrupyFine ice• Thick syrupy
Dominated by syrup
Dark in color
Doesn't pile
Hard to drink through straw
Freezing results may vary
It noticeable in the machine, because you can see the stirring device inside, and sometimes even see the water sloshing around
Increased concentration of fine ice, which results in it being thicker
It piles well
Freezes good, simply because it doesn't freeze; it stays soft for over 24hrs in the freezer. It's good eaten with a spoon when frozen.
Syrupy water will collect around the rim of the Slurpee cup, so be careful that it doesn't drip
Color is darker when observed in the machine.
Thick
• More ice, not too syrupy, but very flavorful.
• Often an ideal consistency especially if it's to be all drinking at once on a nice hot summer day
• It will pile good
• Tasteful
• Rich color
• Freezing is generally good. Don't leave in freezer for too long (before it's completely frozen); if this happens, leave it out to melt (defrost) and make sure that you drink/eat it before it's all melted
F• Flavor not as strong as thick syrupy
• One of the best consistencies
Icy/chunky
• Less syrup, and contains chunkier ice bits
• Not as flavorful
• Doesn't freeze well
• May pile slightly
• Color is light
• The top of the Slurpee will easily turn white while drinking.
Frothy
• Some ice chunks, otherwise it's a mush of frothy foam yucky stuff.
• Doesn't pile
• Light in color
• Not flavorful
• Freezes poorly
• Does not clear your thirst
• Is the loudest of all consistencies when it melts (though may also be heard with border-line frothy); it sounds like the snap-crackle-pop of Kellogg's Rice Krispies.
