On January 14th, 2000, the first show of Higher Ground was aired on Fox
Family Channel.
- Higher Ground, intitially titled Cliffhangers, was a one-hour drama
about Horizon, a school for troubled teens, and the students within its
walls.
- The show dealt with such issues as:
Drug Abuse
Sexual Abuse
Verbal Abuse
Self-Mutilation
Eating Disorders (Bulimia)
Neglect
Suicide
- The network that originally aired
the show -- Fox Family Channel -- was new, and unexperienced. Unfortunately,
becuase of this and other factors, Higher Ground was not advertised well.
After the first season was aired, limited effort was made to sell the
show to other networks. As a result, Higher Ground was not renewed for
another season, and was not picked up by another channel.
- The combination of talented writers and actors/actresses,
as well as the rest of the crew of the production, produced a fabulous
show. All of those who watched it from the start knew that it was a great
show with a future.
- Since the last show of the season aired, many
more people have fallen in love with Higher Ground with syndications airing
on several networks.
- The show has yet to be formally released to VHS/DVD.
